The system wasn’t built for this. We are.

More NPs want independence. More patients want personal care. The infrastructure to make it happen hasn’t existed — until now.

Starting a practice has historically required a lawyer, a biller, a credentialing specialist, and years of patience. Kinstead compresses all of that into 90 days.

Founder stories

The NPs building practices patients wait for.

Real nurse practitioners who launched independent practices with Kinstead — in their words, and by the numbers.

“People really needed a little bit more time, more care — which was lacking in the current infrastructure.”

Your practice, your identity

In their words

Hear it from the NPs.

Nurse practitioners from the Kinstead network on what independent practice actually looks like — unscripted, in their own words.

“Working with Kinstead has been a dream come true! I was initially skeptical—it almost sounded too good to be true—but they proved to be incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. With their help, I took my first steps toward opening my practice and felt supported every step of the way.”

Sophie Shi, NP

Linden Spital, NP

“I wanted to start a practice for several years; however, coordinating all of the necessary steps to launch a practice seemed to stop me from doing so. Kinstead respected my vision and brought everything to life.”

Meghan Doody, NP

“I had started an LLC and then got stuck. Kinstead has made the seemingly impossible, possible for me in starting a practice.”

Anthony Rodriguez, FNP

“I finally have a practice I’m proud of. Kinstead handled everything I was scared to do alone.”

Community & support

Independent. Not alone.

Every Kinstead NP is part of a real community of independent providers — people who understand the journey because they’re on it too. Whatever you’re navigating, you have people beside you.

Common questions

The questions NPs ask us first.

Straight answers about states, timelines, ownership, and what it actually takes to get started.

Which states does Kinstead work in?

Massachusetts, Maryland, and Connecticut. We're currently accepting primary care and psychiatry nurse practitioners in all three, and we expect to open additional states as we grow.

How long does it take to open my practice?

About 90 days from signed agreement to your first patient visit. Credentialing and payer enrollment take the longest, so we start those immediately and run entity formation, branding, and EHR setup in parallel rather than one after another.

Do I need full practice authority to open a practice in my state?

Massachusetts, Maryland, and Connecticut all allow nurse practitioners to practice independently once they have completed their state's transition period — two years of supervised practice in Massachusetts, three years and 2,000 hours of collaboration in Connecticut, and an initial mentorship period in Maryland that applies only to newly certified NPs. Nurse practitioners with five or more years of experience have almost always cleared these thresholds already.

Who owns the practice?

You do, always. Your practice is independently owned and operated by you, under your name and your clinical judgment. Kinstead provides operational support — credentialing, billing, compliance, EHR, and growth — and does not own or control your practice.

Can I keep my current job while my practice gets set up?

Yes, and many nurse practitioners do. Credentialing and payer enrollment take 90 to 180 days and require very little of your time, so most NPs stay in their current role until their contracts are active and then transition into their own practice.
